4th Annual Courage for a Cure Charity Golf Tournament
Saturday, October 5th, 2019 (Rainout Date Sunday, October 6th) For Mitochondrial Disease Research & the Community at Texas Children’s Hospital and other local charities in honor of Carson Crosby

The Courage for a Cure Foundation was started 3 years ago to bring awareness and promote research for a genetic condition known as Mitochondrial Disease. It is estimated that nearly 1 in 2,000 people will face a diagnosis of Mitochondrial Disease. Our own 7-year-old Carson Crosby is the inspiration behind our cause. He currently is living with an unknown Mitochondrial Disease where little is available in the way of knowledge and treatment for this condition. Not only is a cure desperately needed for those affected by Mitochondrial Disorders now and in the future, but any advancement in treatments can go a long way to improving the quality of life for those born with Mito. Courage for a Cure’s mission is to raise funds for research conducted by physicians at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. This research is shared worldwide to help doctors care for all patients affected by Mitochondrial Disease. Courage for a Cure also strives to help other charities, such as Make A Wish, who greatly enhance the quality of life for children battling lifelong illnesses. We hope our foundation can continue to grow and give back in order to improve the lives of many pediatric patients and their families.

To date, our Foundation has donated over $175,000 to various medical facilities and life enhancing charities for those affected by Mitochondrial Disease. Since 2016, $150,000 has been donated to research at Baylor College of Medicine conducted by physicians at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Fernando Scaglia, a Baylor College of Medicine researcher and Texas Children’s Hospital physician, is one of the leading Mitochondrial Disease Geneticists and Researcher’s in the world. His research has helped create a nationwide data base for physicians caring for Mitochondrial Disease patients all over in order to share research, findings, help diagnose patients, treatments, and improve quality of care. Courage for a Cure has also donated $3,500 to Make A Wish Foundation and $5,500 Give Kids the World, both amazing nonprofit organizations who have been significantly improving the lives of pediatric patients for decades. $7,500 has been donated to Rice Medical Center Employee Volunteers for pediatric medical equipment and supplies. Each of these recipients have impacted pediatric patients suffering from Mitochondrial Diseases and other pediatric lifelong illnesses in uniquely positive ways. The Foundation has also been able to help a few families who have a child born with a genetic condition who has significant medical needs by providing financial support to help them get back on their feet.

We hope to continue to grow each year through this fundraiser and forever change the lives of patients, families, and medical care teams who are impacted by this chronic life- threatening condition.
